“We had a nightmare of a garden to redesign - dark and dingy, on a steep slope of dense clay - no top soil at all and even grass was refusing to grow…

I knew Mik from previous projects where his attention to detail and artistry had always led to the most beautiful results. Not only that but there is no challenge that is too great for him... and he’s essentially really fun to work with! Right from the outset I could tell he loved the ideas and the immense challenge this project was going to be. The access, the foundations, the countless immense problems to deal with but we began getting heads together and the ideas and solutions started flowing. It is always immensely inspiring and energising talking through your ideas with Mik and I soon looked forward to the site meetings every morning where we discuss the days plan. The creativity combined with the immense skill leads to astounding results every time.

The resulting garden, from its sunken hot tub, Japanese inspired moss garden, decking and tiered fern garden, wild bird feeding area and even down to the mini adventure play park was all completed with such incredible attention to detail and with such a unified style that I can only describe it as an expression of Mik’s genius and again, artistry. He and his team are the best.

It was a big enough space but because of the steepness and surrounding woodlands which we loved just got no light at all.

I longed for a garden the whole family could enjoy every day. It had to be a play space for my young son, sympathetic to the surrounding woodland, inviting to the wildlife that we hoped would visit and also deliver on the vision I had which was inspired by a career of international travel mainly in Asia and the tropics... so quite a brief to live up to!
